Success Stories

We Can Do This has fed thousands of meals to hundreds of children since serving our first lunch in October 2016.

For too many of our kids, our lunch could be the only meal they eat that day.

In March 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic temporarily halted our in-person meals. But we kept serving food on the weekends. Any child could stop by the F Street Community Center on Saturday and Sunday to pick up a sack lunch.

And we didn’t stop there. We expanded our services to provide children with a bag of food, enough to feed them breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a week. We continued providing sack lunches and food bags to our kids until September 2021.

Now, we’re back to seeing our kids in person. Here are a few things our kids and their parents have to say about our program.

Why We Feed Kids on the Weekends

Today was a very emotional day. While at F Street, I had the honor of sitting with a young boy (maybe 6 years old). He was eating his 3rd plate of food. I got him some juice.

“Thank you,” he said.

I sat down to talk to him. It’s Sunday today, the last time he ate was Friday.

I told him that we would have a backpack of food for him before he left. As I was getting up from the chair, tears ran down my cheek, I heard this sweet and quiet little voice say, “Thank you for my backpack.”

This is why we do what we do. My heart is full. ❤

why we do what we do

Today was a reminder of why we do what we do, feeding children at F Street Community Center. A young man maybe 7 years old came up for his 4th piece of pizza.

Young man: “This is the only thing I’ve eaten so I’m trying to get my tummy full.”

Humbled, tearful and so grateful for everyone who makes it possible for the children at F Street to eat a meal. For some the only one they will eat that day.

Why we started our food pantry

My heart is heavy this morning. Working Mom . . . [only] able to put one meal a day on the table. Thank goodness the kids can eat breakfast and lunch at school. The kids come to F Street on the weekends to eat lunch.

This is why we do what we do. If anyone would like to donate gift cards . . . I would like to buy them some powdered milk and cereal stuff for the weekends so they can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner on the weekends.
